Lisa and Brian From ‘The Ultimatum’ Season 2 Just Got Engaged
Wedding bells are in the air! Lisa Horne and Brian Okoye from season 2 of Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On are engaged.
Lisa from ‘The Ultimatum’ says ‘the time was right’ to get engaged to Brian
Brian pulled out all the stops when he popped the question to Lisa on Sunday, May 19.
Lisa and Brian’s friends and family had traveled to their hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, for their son’s first birthday party. After the celebration, Lisa thought she was going to enjoy a girls’ night out with her best friend. In reality, Brian had arranged a memorable proposal that involved all of the birthday guests holding red roses while he stood in front of a backdrop that read “Will You Marry Me?”
“This has been a long time coming,” said Brian. “Not only is Lisa my person but being able to surprise her and celebrate this moment with our friends and family meant everything. It was the perfect timing for us, and that’s what makes it so special.”
For Lisa – who signed up for the Netflix reality show because she felt Brian was dragging his feet on marriage – the proposal came exactly when it should have.
“Everything happens at the right time,” she said. “It was truly serendipitous for us to leave the show because of our pregnancy, welcome our son, and then get engaged when the time was right for us.”
Lisa and Brian left ‘The Ultimatum’ Season 2 early
Lisa and Brian’s time on The Ultimatum was brief but memorable. They were one of five season 2 couples who were at a crossroads in their relationship, with one partner ready to tie the knot and the other not so sure they were ready to commit.
On the show, cast members swap partners and participate in a three-week trial marriage with a new person before deciding whether to reunite with their original partner or break up for good. But Lisa and Brian never got to the partner-swapping stage of the experiment.
Though Lisa was the ultimatum-giver, she quickly began having second thoughts about the show. After Brian started flirting with another woman at the group cocktail party, she stormed out.
“F*ck marriage. F*ck The Ultimatum,” she said as she and Brian argued in the parking lot outside the bar. “I’m done.”
Lisa’s emotions were running high, and soon after, she and Brian decided to bow out of The Ultimatum early. But their exit wasn’t driven by her jealousy. Lisa had discovered she was pregnant. While both were thrilled they were about to become parents, they knew they still had a lot of work to do on their relationship.
“A baby doesn’t fix the problems that we have,” Lisa said.
Lisa and Brian’s son Mason was born in May 2023. In an interview with Essence, Lisa said she had no regrets about quitting The Ultimatum.
“It was so peaceful to be able to just focus on and prepare for the baby instead of worrying more about the show,” she said. “I’m glad we did make the decision to leave because I couldn’t imagine having gone the rest of the show pregnant.”
