Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness is a true crime documentary series on Netflix that features the story of former zookeeper (and now convicted felon) Joe Exotic. Season 1 premiered in March 2020, and season 2 was released in November 2021.
The wildly popular series features big cat conservationist, Carole Baskin, who accuses big cat collectors like Exotic (real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage), Jeff Lowe, and Bhagavan “Doc” Antle of abusing/exploiting the animals. Mostly, though, it focuses on the eccentric life of Exotic and his downfall. In early 2020 Exotic was sentenced to 22 years in prison on counts of murder-for-hire, violating the Lacey Act, and violating the Endangered Species Act.
