‘Gilmore Girls’: Is This Proof That Logan is the Father of Rory’s Baby?
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life ended with four words Amy Sherman-Palladino was desperate to hear Rory say. Love the ending or hate it, it sure leaves something to the imagination. What we know by the end of the revival is that Rory is pregnant. What we don’t know is the identity of this child’s father. While fans have theorized everyone from Jesse (unlikely) to a random Wookie (very strange) is the father of the baby. There is one person who seems to be the obvious choice for paternity – Logan Huntzberger.
The final four words were planned all along
Amy Sherman-Palladino clearly wanted the series to end with Rory getting pregnant. It does, in fact, bring the entire series full circle. In Sherman-Palladino’s world, however, that would have happened years ago. Since she did not write the final season of the series, Sherman-Palladino picked up A Year In The Life, where she believed it would have been had season 7 never happened.
Okay, so we know that. If Season 7 never happened, then Rory was with Logan when season 6 ended. He would have never proposed at the end of Season 7, and Rory would have never brutally rebuffed his proposal. If that’s the case, one could surmise that Sherman-Palladino always intended Rory to have a child with Logan. Maybe it happened ten years later than planned, but the storyline seemingly mimics what Sherman-Palladino had in mind for the original series finale.
Season 6 of the original run of Gilmore Girls ends with Logan heading off to London. If we assume Season 7 never happened, we could assume that Sherman-Palladino intended Rory to be pregnant with Logan’s child before he took off for London.
Logan is supposed to be Rory’s Christopher
Lorelei has made it clear that she believes Rory is just like her. She designed it that way. Sure, Rory went off to Yale and was a bit timider than her go-getter mother, but still, they shared a lot of similarities. It would stand to reason that both Lorelei and Rory would pick similar men.
Logan, growing up exorbitantly wealthy, mimics Christopher Hayden, Rory’s father. They have more than affluent backgrounds in common, though. Logan and Christopher both share the same reckless behavior pattern. They are both somewhat indecisive when it comes to their love lives, and they both have devil-may-care attitudes. Logan is supposed to be Rory’s Christopher, clearly.
If Logan is an adaptation of Christopher and Rory is an adaptation of Lorelei, it would stand to reason that the two would have a child together in less-than-ideal circumstances. For Lorelei and Christopher, their ages were what made the situation untenable. For Rory and Logan, the existence of Odette makes the pregnancy complicated.
Will fans ever get an answer?
If you are hoping to see a second revival of the much-beloved series, it’s not entirely out of the question. Back in 2018, Netflix executives claimed they were happy to entertain the possibility of a second revival. In fact, executives insisted that they were in talks with team Palladino, but fans needn’t get too excited. Palladino is a bit busy working on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and the acclaimed series doesn’t show any signs of going off the air.
There are several stars who are on board with the idea, so if Sherman-Palladino can work it into her schedule, then it’s likely to happen. If a second revival does come to Netflix, the father of Rory’s child will likely be a central storyline. There has been no news that a second revival is in the works, though, so it could be awhile before we all return to Stars Hollow.
