But Sally called it “lust at first sight ” instead of love at first sight.” His muscles and physique enamored her. The two fell in love, and Sally fell even harder. At the time, Sally had two children, John and Shantina, from a previous marriage. She, too, was physically abused in that marriage.

The cycle of abuse would only continue after her marriage to Ray in 1987. By then, there was a power struggle as Sally made the income to support Ray’s steroid use. Killer Sally explored how she was involved in “muscle prostitution,” where she would wrestle men for money. Three days into their marriage, Sally revealed that Ray had cracked her lip and punched her in the face.

Testimonies from Sally’s daughter Shantina testified that Ray would often choke her mother. On one occasion, Shantina had heard a sickening crack sound. She discovered Ray had broken her mother’s nose. Sally filed a report but recanted at his behest. John’s testimony included that Ray was abusive toward him and his sister. Ray would often hit them or spank them when they did something wrong.

But the docuseries also dived into how Ray’s friends saw Sally. They believed it was not a one-way street as Killer Sally explored Sally’s violent past. Killer Sally also showed footage of Ray’s lover, Marianne, who told police that Sally was also abusive. Shantina and John admitted their mother had a temper but stuck by her side after the murder.

On Valentine’s Day 1995, 911 received a call from Sally confessing to having shot her husband in the face and is dead. In the background, Shantina can be heard yelling. At the time of the murder, John and Shantina were home. Sally’s story explained that Ray was not home for Valentine’s Day, and she ventured to find him. But at home, they had gotten into an argument. Sally believed the use of multiple steroids in Ray’s system could lead her to be in danger. As a result, she shoots Ray twice.

Killer Sally shows real-life police footage of Sally’s murder investigation and her last moments with John and Shantina. While both were present during the murder, both children hugged and cried with their mother. Sally apologized to her children for what she had done. But John’s response was interesting, to say the least, as he tried to ensure his mother that everything would be okay.

“Remember, that police officer said if you thought that he was gonna kill you, that was self-defense because of the marks on you,” said John at the time. John was eight years old in the fourth grade when the murder happened.

To many, the statement would seem peculiar. But both Shantina and John witnessed the physical abuse Ray inflicted on their mother and themselves.

How long did Sally serve in jail for the murder?

As John had said, Killer Sally explored how her lawyers claimed Sally acted in self-defense. They argued Sally had “battered woman syndrome” as someone her husband consistently assaulted during their marriage. At the time, the public and news outlets did not buy it. They could not fathom that a female bodybuilder could kill her husband.

The trial also pointed out how Sally reloaded the gun and fired the second shot at Ray’s face. Killer Sally also explored how the prosecutors felt Sally lacked the necessary reactions and emotions after the murder. The media and public turned against Sally due to her image and disregarded what she and her children lived through at home.

Ultimately, Sally was convicted of second-degree murder and given 19 to life. Since her imprisonment, the lead news anchor that broke the case felt guilty over how the media portrayed her. According to The Guardian, “the idea that Sally could not be a battered woman because she was (in costume) a muscular, man-destroying killer, is ‘not just exclusive to the 90s or beforehand,'” said director Nanette Burstein. “That’s still the case today, unfortunately.” Sally was released from prison in 2020.

Developed by the Hong Sisters, the storyline, visual effects, and main cast brought a mystical world of fantasy and magic to life. Lee Jae-wook originally wanted to turn down ‘Alchemy of Souls’

Before tvN’s Alchemy of Souls, Lee Jae-wook was a rising star, having starred in some hit classics like Extraordinary You, Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol, and Search: WWW. He got his first major acting role as a villain in Memories of Alhambra. When it came to considering joining the cast of Alchemy of Souls, Lee was hesitant at first.

According to Soompi, Lee said, “To be honest, I turned it down at first. It was too difficult, and I wondered whether I’d be able to pull this project off well. However, I think I came to do it solely out of my desire to take on a new challenge.” Looking back at Lee’s career, Alchemy of Souls is inarguably his most significant role to date. His previous roles were in romance or as supporting characters.

The fantasy K-drama and the storyline relied heavily on his character. According to Soompi, Lee faced difficulties taking on the role and experienced things he never had before. “I haven’t tried anything as desperately as Jang Wook and felt a huge sense of accomplishment like him. What led to Sally’s ‘Battered Woman Syndrome’ in ‘Killer Sally’?

Sally was a Marine when she first met Ray McNeil, also a former Marine. Ray became interested in her when an acquaintance showed him a photo of her. At the time, Sally had developed a love for bodybuilding and competed. For Sally, it was “lust at first sight,” as Ray was also a bodybuilder. They developed a fast relationship that had dark secrets. Killer Sally explored how she got involved in “muscle worship” to support Ray’s ambition to become a pro. She wrestled men for money.

Sally soon became the primary breadwinner in supporting Ray’s steroid use. But it created a power shift that led to violence. Shantina and John Lowden testified that Ray began hitting their mother after their marriage. Through Sally’s retelling, Killer Sally revealed how Ray would physically abuse her, hit her, choke her, and broke her nose. When the murder occurred, Sally testified it was in self-defense over the fear of Ray beating her.

Cornell University explained, “Battered Woman Syndrome, a theory developed in the 1970’s that is now associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), is sometimes used in court cases as mitigation in homicide cases where a battered woman kills her abuser.” The legal team’s plan to portray Sally as a “victim” would not work as the jury made sexist claims toward her.

In Killer Sally, audiences saw how far public opinion swayed the jury and Sally’s legal team’s defense of “Battered Woman Syndrome.” The tabloids labeled Sally a “pumped-up princess” and a “brawny bride.” They could not believe a woman with her physique could not protect herself. According to the docu-series, her stage name was ‘Killer Sally.’ “That came back to haunt her in so many ways during this case, which is why the series is called that [Killer Sally]. It was definitely used against her in the trial. Even though it wasn’t evidence of anything, it was very damaging,” said Nanette Burstein to Newsweek.

The last damning evidence that made the jury not believe the “Battered Woman Syndrome” defense was Sally’s past, detailed in Killer Sally. Sally’s history of violence led to her discharge from the military. The prosecution also argued that the murder was premeditated because Sally knew of Ray’s affair with Marianne. “Because she is a ‘violent’ person, and a violent person cannot be a victim of violence,” said Burstein.

Killer Sally also brought in Diane Diamond, who was the voice of Hard Copy and reported on the case. Diamond admitted that what attracted them to the case was being able to create lines like, “Instead of pumping iron, she was pumping bullets into her husband.”

The media had played its role, and the prosecution in having everyone believe she was not a “battered woman.” By the end of Killer Sally, Diamond said, “I just feel badly that we, the media, me included, didn’t delve more into who was Sally McNeil? Past the greased-up muscles and steroids. And we didn’t do that then.” Diamond also said she would apologize if she could.

Dr. Carlisle evaluated Ted Bundy for 90 days after his first official arrest

The crux of the docu-series is Dr. Carlisle’s family and colleagues discovering heaping amounts of notes, tapes, and documents of his assessment of Bundy and afterward. While working as a clinical psychologist at the Utah State Prison, Bundy was arrested for kidnapping in 1976. At the time, the BSU and Mindhunter program did not exist. Instead, a judge would send an inmate to Dr. Carlisle to evaluate if the person was prone to violence.

Dr. Carlisle soon met Bundy and began his 90-day evaluation program. He was convinced Bundy was hiding something far more sinister than a desire to kidnap. Violent Minds: Killers on Tape revealed how Dr. Carlisle got close to Bundy and soon realized that he was a threat to society before anyone else did.

When Bundy was evaluated, he had not yet become the horrific killer that would go down in American history. After Dr. Carlisle’s evaluation, Bundy was sentenced to 15 years in jail. His reign of terror occurred later when he murdered four women in Florida at a local campus. When he returned from a three-day fishing trip, a Missing Persons was issued for Davis and Perry. He soon realized the car belonged to them. A full-scale search discovered their dead bodies in the woods off the highway. Violent Minds: Killers on Tape revealed New Jersey police investigated thousands of suspects for the murders, including Bundy.

Dr. Carlisle’s tape with Bundy revealed that he had become overstimulated by pornographic imagery while on the East Coast. Before leaving, he went to “the shore” and became overwhelmed by what he saw on the beach. Speaking in a third person, Bundy told Dr. Carlisle he had picked up a few girls and “ended up being the first time he’d ever done it.” Bundy does not explicitly say he murdered or who he murdered. But Dr. Carlisle soon realized what had happened.

Dr. Carlisle’s notes in Violent Minds: Killers on Tape believed the New Jersey murders pushed Bundy over the line. He finally transitioned from fantasy to reality and satiated his hunger.

At the point of the killing, Ted felt satisfaction, he had physically destroyed a living person and symbolically destroyed Marjorie and he felt momentary peace,” read his notes. “The killing cycle was complete the process permanently fixed in place and the only thing that would stop him from killing again would be if he were killed himself.”

Bundy was arrested in 1978 for the massacre at the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University. He admitted to 30 murders. But he did not mention Davis and Perry as part of them. As a group of 3rd-year high school students are forced to become military soldiers, sphere aliens wreak havoc across the country. Duty After School is based on an original webtoon that does follow many of the storyline details. But fans noticed a major plot hole with the sphere aliens deviating from the Duty After School webtoon.

Citizens learned to live with the sphere aliens in ‘Duty After School’

The premise of the coming-of-age thriller K-drama storyline revolves around the invasion of slimy, purple, and round aliens suspended in the sky. The government and military never expected the gruesome damage the spheres would create. In return, military soldiers are dying left and right. They enact a military draft to combat the situation, forcing high school students to become soldiers and undergo training. But what do they know about the sphere aliens in Duty After School?

The first episode gave some details about the invasion. The episode opens with the main characters going about their day in school. Everything appears normal until the scene panned to reveal purple spheres in the sky. The character Deok-joong (Woo Min-kyu) questions how long it has been and said a year has already passed.

Young-hoon (Ro Jong-hyun) is later on the bus watching a Youtube channel explaining the sphere aliens in Duty After School. The woman says they appeared a year ago worldwide, except for artic or cold regions like Russia. This detail will be important later on.

She continued to explain that the military used nuclear weapons and missiles. But the spheres absorbed them and multiplied. NASA and scientists used drones and X-rays to study them and found no harmful diseases to humans. But as Duty After School progressed, the spheres started falling. When it comes to destroying the alien spheres, fans noticed one major plot hole in Duty After School.

What is the plot hole in Duty After School? It has everything to do with how to destroy the sphere aliens that global scientists and the military have failed to realize. In flashbacks of Choon-ho (Shin Hyun-soo), he learned what the military had uncovered after he and his platoon were attacked. No weapons of mass destruction hurt them or kill them. But they did discover DU ammunition works to kill the smaller aliens.

DU ammunition is from depleted uranium used in armor-piercing projectiles. The ammo is only a small solution. In the K-drama, the students walk through an abandoned town after shooting practice. Two wander off to a convenience store while the smaller aliens attack the others. When encountering an alien at the store, they only stop it by trapping it in a freezing cold fridge.

Sound familiar? The key to destroying the sphere aliens was revealed from the get-go and became a plot hole in Duty After School. The Youtuber from the first episode revealed the aliens did not descend on arctic regions. In another episode, the same student used liquid nitrogen to save his friend from an alien. All the clues were there, but no one noticed on a global scale.

The major plot hole angered a fan on Reddit. “Personally I am just super p*ssed that not one dude in the entire world in the show had any logic to put 2 and 2 together and realise the reason why the spheres were not found in the cold parts of the world was because they are weak to cold, and they had a full year to prep too… Also it’s weird that they mentioned almost the whole world but somehow in that full year there was no winter?” said the fan. It seems that Duty After School made a few changes to the webtoon.

The original webtoon did not give the aliens a weakness

Fans know how the characters must destroy the alien spheres in Duty After School. It is a waiting game to see if the characters will discover it. A few changes were made because the sci-fi K-drama is based on a webtoon. One major change has to do with the aliens.

A fan on Reddit explained, “Read the webtoon, the spheres weren’t supposed to be immune to anything in the first place. The drama just created a massive plothole on it’s own.” It seems that the K-drama was caught red-handed. The aliens were more dangerous in the webtoon, but the drama needed to add new details to push the storyline. But Duty After School only created a plot hole.

Duty After School Part 2 will release on April 21. The official teaser hints that the characters are entering colder months. Many of them are seen wearing heavy jackets and scarves. It may address the fan’s comment about the winter season plot hole. Will the cold temperatures finally push the characters to discover the truth and the other student to reveal how he killed two of them without DU ammunition?

Lee Yeon meets his rebellious brother again in ‘Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938’

The first season ended on a good yet happy note as Lee Yeon gets to live a somewhat normal life. The characters faced peril with Nam Ji-ah (Jo Bo-ah) alive. Because of this, fans got a happy ending as Lee Yeon finally gets to be with his true love after spending decades looking for her. For Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, Lee Yeon fights desperately to return to his present.

According to Soompi, the season storyline reads that Lee Yeon has mysteriously been teleported to1938, a time period he has already lived through. Lee Yeon ventures to uncover the truth and how to return. But there are a few obstacles. He faces the Mountain Goddess of the West, Ryu Hong-joo (Kim So-yeon), and the Mountain God of the North, Cheon Moo-young (Ryu Kyung-soo).

Hong-joo wants something from Lee Yeon, while Moo-young was once his former friend but seeks revenge against someone. Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1939 brings back Lee Rang (Kim Bum), Lee Yeon’s brother, who sacrificed his life in the present to save his brother. In 1938, Lee Rang was in his rebellious and murderous phase and loathed his older brother.

Fans are excited to watch the new storyline and its time period setting. It will allow for new dynamics, costuming, and weaponry. But Lee Yeon in the 1930s was teased before in Tale of the Nine-Tailed.

Tale of the Nine-Tailed showed a few of Lee Yeon’s stories from the past as he heartbrokenly looked for his true love throughout the centuries. In Tale of the Nine-Tailed Episode 2, fans can speculate the one time Lee Yeon found a look-alike was in the 1930s.

After fans learn what happened to his true love, it shifts to him finding a woman that looks just like her in the Joseon era. But she does not have his fox bead. The scene then shifts to a saloon/sitting area. Based on the clothing and color palette, it closely resembles what fans see in Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938. Lee Yeon is seen wearing a blue pinstripe suit and glasses. The lookalike of his true love wore a suit-style ensemble.

Another clear indicator of the 1930s is that she smokes from a long pipe. The character description for Lee Yeon for the new season reads that 1930 was when he relied heavily on opium. The drug was often smoked through long pipes that became more intricate using long Sherlock Holmes-style pipes.

Will Ji-ah return for ‘Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938’?

When the second season of Tale of the Nine-Tailed was announced, fans were curious to know if Ji-ah would return. But based on the storyline, it seems unlikely. It was confirmed that Jo Bo-ah is not part of the cast list for the new season. The storyline will likely hint at Lee Yeon living happily with her in the present before he was swept away to the past. There might be an ongoing theme of mentioning her as Lee Yeon works to return to his time period.

Knowing that a version of Ji-ah does exist in the 1930s, the K-drama may have her make a cameo appearance or have Lee Yeon remember her. But the Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 will heavily focus on Lee Yeon reuniting with his little brother. Jo is scheduled to appear in the 2023 Netflix K-drama Destined With You alongside Rowoon.

Oxygen’s true crime series Violent Minds: Killers on Tape takes Dr. Al Carlisle’s work to further explore the mind of Ted Bundy. The series is based on never-before-seen records, notes, and recordings of Dr. Carlise’s conversation with Bundy that his colleagues thought were lost forever. In shocking detail, Violent Minds: Killers on Tape dives into how the psychologist became “friends” with a serial killer.

Dr. Carlisle met Ted Bundy after his first major arrest

In 1976, Dr. Carlisle worked as a clinical psychologist at the Utah State Prison. His work was to evaluate inmates sent by the state in a 90-Day Evaluation Program. He was to determine for a judge if an inmate was prone to violent tendencies for a prison sentence or send them on probation. It was before the BSU or the Mindhunter program fans see in Mindhunter. Dr. Carlisle’s work soon led him to Ted Bundy.

But Violent Minds: Killers on Tape is not about Ted Bundy the prolific serial killer, but the seemingly ordinary man who Dr. Carlisle felt was hiding a sinister secret. When Dr. Carlisle met Bundy, the public had no idea about his serial killer ways or crimes. Instead, Bundy was sent for an evaluation after his first arrest in August.

Bundy failed to stop at the request of an officer and was later arrested for having in his possession burglary tools. Ten months later, he was charged with the kidnapping of a young woman. Due to public unrest that a handsome Mormon law student could have committed the crime, the judge was unsure of how to sentence Bundy.

Violent Minds: Killers on Tape uses one of Dr.Carlisle’s interviews where he explained his job was not to prove Bundy’s crimes but to determine if he had a violent streak that would be dangerous to the public. Dr.Carlisle’s notes read he went into the interviews unbiased by what the case files said about Bundy. “Ted approached me as if he already knew the outcome of my assessment. In his favor, of course. And his goal was to get to know the man who would return him to society when his 90 days had concluded,” said Dr. Carlisle’s writings.

When first meeting Bundy, Dr. Carlisle was surprised by his uncharacteristically happy nature despite his circumstances. After administering many psychological tests, Dr. Carlisle concluded he had to try something new. He began to speak to the people around Bundy like ex-girlfriends. But in an interview with TV Insider, Carrie Anne Drazewski-Keller, the creative consultant for one of his books, further breaks down how Bundy developed a bond with Dr. Carlisle.

“Dr. Carlisle’s approach was very succinct. He was short and sweet. Most of the time when he did ask you a question, it wasn’t a question you could just answer yes or no. It allowed people to open up. Questions he would ask to dig into the story he heard,” she explained. Violent Minds: Killers on Tape also revealed how Bundy soon began to talk to Dr. Carlisle like a son telling his father about the fish he caught.

“I really could see the relationship that Ted Bundy had with Doc and Doc had with Ted Bundy. They were friends,” said Drazewski-Keller. After Bundy’s escape in Colorado, he contacted Dr. Carlisle. “He’s talking about it like he is talking to a friend going on a camping trip. It’s very relaxed. He is laughing. There is a lot to it that you feel shouldn’t be there in this situation of seriousness. The laughing and chuckling. There is some psychopathy there.”

Violent Minds: Killers on Tape even revealed how Bundy somehow got Dr. Carlisle’s address and sent him a Christmas card. Dr. Carlisle’s ability to see Bundy as a fascinating test subject seemed to have enthralled Bundy. As well as his decision to accept Bundy’s odd tactics, like calling him Al and wanting to dissect him.

Dr. Carlisle only talked to and studied Bundy for 90 days, as requested by the program. Violent Minds: Killers on Tape documents a moment when he and Bundy were in the hallway. Bundy asked if Dr. Carlisle believed he had killed those girls. Dr. Carlisle said yes, but could not give a definitive answer because Bundy was going to court.

The pressure was on Dr. Carlisle as he had to give his assessment of Bundy, which had some public scrutiny behind it. In June 1976, he submitted his findings and Bundy was sentenced for the kidnapping of Carol DaRonch. In his report, Dr. Carlisle agreed Bundy was guilty of the violence associated with the type of crime.

“I cannot comfortably say he would be a good risk if probation was granted,” read the report. Bundy was angered by the assessment and claimed it was created to fit the crime and he was innocent. Because of Dr. Carlisle’s report, Bundy was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

In 2023, fans praised TVing’s newest hit based on a webtoon, Duty After School. The storyline’s popularity and casting have led to a spotlight on one actor in particular, Lee Yeon. Besides Duty After School, Lee Yeon has appeared in some of the most recognized K-dramas and a hit movie.

While 3rd-year students prepare for the CSATs and enjoy their youth, Duty After School flips the script. The webtoon K-drama focuses on sphere aliens that have inhabited South Korea. But they remained dormant in the sky since their arrival, and everyone has learned to live with them. But behind closed doors, the military made a fatal mistake and angered the spheres.

Duty After School focuses on one specific 3rd-year class whose lives are changed forever. They are informed that the CSATs are postponed as they will undergo military training in school. While believing they are only training for a short period and will receive college credit, it is a lie. As the alien spheres pose a deadly threat and military soldiers are killed, high schoolers become soldiers. It is a fight for survival.

Actor Lee Yeon stars as one of the high schoolers in Duty After School named No Ae-seol. The character is shy and takes care of her ill grandmother. At school, she is bullied by some of her female peers, but not the extreme that fans see in The Glory.

As the characters face peril, Ae-seol has a hard time adjusting to the gravity of the situation and developing fight-or-flight survival tactics. She is seen as a weakling, still facing scrutiny from her bully. In a Naver article, the K-drama director praised Lee Yeon’s acting. While initially concerned, her acting proved she was the perfect fit for Ae-seol. “Actor Lee Yeon-nim was very good at it,” said the director.

Fans may not easily recognize her as she had a buzz cut and a sinister smile as her character is accused of murder. She also played a small role in Netflix’s military K-drama D.P. At the end of 2022 into 2023, Lee Yeon gained fame for her role in the dark K-drama Weak Hero Class 1.

She starred as Young-yi, the cousin of one of the head thugs that hurts Si-eun (Park Ji-hoon). Her character breaks away from the group after they are arrested and develops friendships with Si-eun and the others. Due to her hairstyle, fans may notice that Lee Yeon is often unrecognizable in many of her K-drama roles. In Weak Hero Class 1, she wore a shoulder-length black wig with purple streaks.

In 2023, Lee Yeon appeared as the young version of Nam Haeng-sun in Netflix’s comedy Crash Course in Romance. The K-drama has Lee Yeon as the young version of the female lead when she becomes the guardian of her niece and gives up her dream to raise her. When Boksoon goes on a mission, Yeong-ji becomes her apprentice and accomplice when the mission goes south.

According to Soompi, Lee Yeon’s growing fame has paid off. She is nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Kill Boksoon at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards. Despite her youthful appearance, Lee Yeon is 28 years old.

The streaming platform is ready to release a few K-dramas fans have been eager to see since last year. Fans got their first teasers from Go Yoon-jung’s Moving to Nam Joo-hyuk’s latest role while serving in the military.

Disney+ will release the 2023 K-drama ‘Han River’ about its police enforcers

Anyone who knows about South Korea knows one of its biggest attractions is the Han River. It is a go-to spot for couples, tourists, or friends who want to hang out and have fun. Disney+ developed an original K-drama for 2023 titled Han River. The action-comedy stars Kwon Sang-woo and Kim Hee-won as the leading characters.

Du-jin (Kwon) and Chun-seok (Kim) work for the Han River police and have different personalities. While Chun-seok is level-headed, Du-jin has a bit of a temper. Their job is to protect the Han River and its patrons. Along the way, they solve a few crimes that take place. Han River is scheduled to release in the second half of 2023.

‘Race’ has a female lead prove her superiors wrong

Fans are getting another worthy office K-drama, but this time from Disney+. Race will star Welcome To Wedding Hell’s Lee Yeon-h ee and Hong Jong-hyun. According to NME, the drama will follow Park Yoon-jo (Lee), a PR professional who gets a job at a company where her friend works. Ryu Jae-min (Hong) is a bit of a stickler who separates his work life from his personal one.

‘Moving’ will star ‘Alchemy of Souls Season 2’ actor Go Yoon-jung

Adapted from the webtoon by Kang Full, Moving is one of Disney+’s long-awaited 2023 K-dramas. The fantasy action thriller focuses on three teenagers. Kim Bong-seok, Jang Hee-soo, and Lee Gang-hoon appear ordinary by most standards. But in reality, they have special superhuman abilities inherited by their parents. Bong-seok can fly, while Hee-soo can heal quickly from wounds. Gang-hoon has immense power and speed.

Fans will watch as the three teens try to understand their powers with the help of their parents. Meanwhile, their parents try to shield them from people who wish to use them for their powers. Moving is set to release in August with 20 episodes.

‘The Worst of Evil’ has married police officers take on a criminal organization

Since Squid Game, actor Wi Ha-joon has appeared in Little Women and Bad and Crazy. But fans are gearing up to see him in a sinister role for Disney+’s 2023 K-drama, The Worst of Evil. The crime thriller has The Sound of Magic stars Ji Chang-wook in the role of police officer Park Joon-mo.

During an investigation, he becomes aware of a criminal and drug organization running through South Korea, China, and Japan. While he infiltrates the organization, his wife also becomes involved. Actor Lim Se-mi stars as police officer Yoo Ui-jung. The married couple takes on a dangerous threat as the organization is run by newcomer boss Jung Ki-cheol, played by Wi.

The Worst of Evil is set to premiere in the second half of 2023 on Disney+.

‘Vigilante’ was actor Nam Joo-hyuk’s last role before military enlistment

In late January, Twenty-Five Twenty-One star Nam Joo-hyuk announced he would enlist in the military for mandatory service. Nam entered the military on March 20, 2023. While fans wait for his return, they had something to look forward to. Disney+’s 2023 webcomic K-drama Vigilante will be Nam’s latest role while in the military.

The K-drama’s title is self-explanatory. As a child, Kim Ji-Yong (Nam) witnessed his mother brutally beaten to death by a thug in the street. The thug got a minimal prison sentence. As an adult, Ji-yong sees that his mother’s killer is still prone to violence. Seeing that the justice system failed him, he became a vigilante.

By day, he is a model student at a police university. With the help of Jo Gang-ok (Lee Joon-hyuk), Ji-yong is known as “Vigilante” and punishes criminals. But police detective Jo Heon (Yoo Ji-tae) wants to take down Vigilante.

Vigilante is scheduled to release on Disney+ in the second half of 2023.

Disney+ will stream ‘Dr. Romantic’ Season 3 and a few other K-dramas

Alongside a few original K-dramas, Disney+ will also stream Shadow Detective Season 2. The first season was an original by the streaming platform, and developed a second season for 2023. Kim Taek-rok (Lee Sung-min)is a veteran detective who received a call from an “old friend.” The friend claimed they killed Taek-rok’s colleague and has the detective become a suspect. Trying to prove his innocence, they look for the real killer.

Shadow Detective Season 2 will continue to explore Taek-rok’s mysterious past and who the friend really is. Coming back with new seasons on Disney+ is also First Responders and Dr. Romantic. First Responders Season 2 will continue to focus on the first season characters and their stories.

It was announced that Dr.Romantic Season 3 would bring back the original cast from the second season. But the K-drama is originally by SBS, with Disney+ having the honors of streaming the third season. Fans are also looking forward to the SBS K-drama, The Devil. The 20-episode drama follows Ku San-young (Kim Tae-ri), who becomes possessed by a demon. Yeom Hae-sang (Oh Jung-se) can see the demon inside her, and they work together to uncover the truth behind mysterious deaths related to the five sacred objects.

Disney+ will also stream the 2023 K-drama Family: The Unbreakable Bond. The spy-comedy series focuses on a secret agent husband hiding his profession from his wife. But his wife also has a few secrets about why she is the way she is.

Oxygen’s true crime series, Violent Minds: Killers on Tape, dives into Dr. Carlisle’s records, documents, and conversations with notorious killers, especially Ted Bundy. But who was the clinical psychologist and Mormon who became fascinated with the violence in a killer’s mind?

Dr. Carlisle was a devout Mormon who helped the justice system with violent offenders

According to Violent Minds: Killers on Tape Episode 1, Dr. Carlisle initially did not go to college with the thought of pursuing criminal psychology. He attended Utah State University in 1937 and became fascinated by Charles Manson. It sparked his desire to understand a violent mind and what would lead them to commit killer acts.

Dr. Carlisle graduated with a BS and MS from Utah State University before earning a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Brigham Young University.  Charlene Harmon, Dr. Carlisle’s daughter, explained that the term “serial killer” had not been invented while her father was in school. He was a clinical psychologist who got a job at the Utah State Prison.

What some viewers may find surprising about him were his beliefs. So invested in uncovering what makes serial killers tick, Dr. Carlisle was a devout Mormon. According to TV Insider, creative consultant for Dr. Carlisle, Carrie Anne Drazewski-Keller explained, “His belief system is that everyone is born good and is always good people, but that good people do bad things. That’s what he told me. He needed to understand why.”

His beliefs and inquisitive mind led his work at the Utah State Prison to come face to face with what would be some of America’s worst killers in history. Violent Minds: Killers on Tape helps explore how Dr. Carlisle became integral to the justice system and future study of these offenders.

Everything fans see in Netflix’s Mindhunter is only part of the story of the state’s attempts to understand serial killers. Before the BSU, Dr. Carlisle became integral to helping the justice system. He helped determine whether an offender deserved a lengthy prison sentence.

Violent Minds: Killers on Tape uses a 2017 interview with Dr. Carlisle, where he explains how his path got started. In 1967, after graduation, he began working at the prison. He and Dr. Allan Roe were the only two psychologists at the facility. But Roe explained they had to start the department from scratch because “no one knew what we were supposed to do or what psychologists did.”

Dr. Carlisle’s granddaughter reads some of his notes in Violent Minds: Killers on Tape. He explained he was a part of the state’s “90-Day Evaluation Program.” His task was to evaluate inmates sent to the program by the state. Why? To conclude whether or not an inmate is prone to violent offenses or future crimes. Inmates were often sent to Dr. Carlisle if a judge was uncertain how to sentence an offender, either send them to jail or probation.

In March 1976, Violent Minds: Killers on Tape details Dr. Carlisle’s first meeting with none other than Ted Bundy. His time with Bundy was before Utah knew of his crimes and his infamy as a serial killer. Bundy would be Dr. Carlisle’s most prolific study but not his last.

Where is Dr. Carlisle now?

Ted Bundy is inarguably part of America’s horrid history with serial killers. Violent Minds: Killers on Tape explored how Dr. Carlisle got into his mind to understand if Bundy indeed was evil or where his murderous tendencies stemmed from. But Dr. Carlisle was only at the start of Bundy’s story.

His evaluation of Bundy allowed Americans to be free of his murderous ways for over 10 years, as he was sentenced to prison based on Dr. Carlisle’s report. After Bundy, Dr. Carlisle also studied Arthur Gary Bishop, who killed five young boys and more. Through his work, one of his areas of expertise, according to Oxygen, was dissociative identity disorder.

In 1989, he retired from the prison but continued to share his insights, having published several renowned books like “The 1976 Psychological Assessment of Ted Bundy.” He also gave seminars about serial homicide and “was a Salt Lake City rape crisis consultant.”

Dr. Carlisles died at the age of 81 in 2018. Violent Minds: Killers on Tape was created after his family discovered his notes, tapes, and documents of his case studies. Many of his colleagues thought they were lost. What they found on Bundy and Bishop had never been seen or heard before.
