‘Alexander Hamilton’ From ‘Hamilton’ Has More Spotify Streams Than This New Song From Beyoncé
This Tony-award winning musical has been breaking records since its release. In fact, a number of songs from Hamilton hold more streams than Beyoncé’s latest release, the song featured in Black is King, “Black Parade.” Here’s what we know about the most popular song from Hamilton and its relationship to Beyoncé and Disney+.
Hamilton’s ‘Alexander Hamilton’ has over 145 million plays on Spotify
Sure, a number of the actors won Tony Awards and earned recognition from former President Barack Obama. The music itself from this production, though, holds some pretty impressive streaming numbers on Spotify. Each of the songs released on the original cast album has millions of listens.
The most popular song from this musical is actually the first number, titled “Alexander Hamilton.” It holds over 145 million plays on Spotify. A few other songs from this musical hold over 100 million plays on the streaming platform.
That includes songs from the first act, like “You’ll Be Back,” “The Schuyler Sisters,” “My Shot,” and “Satisfied,” all of which are performed by members of the original cast. In fact, all of these songs hold more streams on Spotify than Beyoncé’s recently released single “Black Parade.”
Beyoncé’s 2020 release, ‘Black Parade’ has over 25 million plays on Spotify
She went from her historic Coachella performance to starring in a Disney musical to releasing another surprise song. To celebrate Juneteenth, Beyoncé released a new song for fans, the single titled “Black Parade.” It later appeared on the deluxe version of The Lion King: The Gift, earning admiration from fans and listeners on the streaming platform.
Within a few weeks, the song, “Black Parade,” earned about 25 million plays on Spotify. This is by far fewer plays than the first song from Hamilton, which holds over 145 million plays on the same service.
To be fair, though, Hamilton came out much earlier than “Black Parade” did. The soundtrack featuring the original cast debuted on Spotify back in 2015. That means on average, the song “Alexander Hamilton” earned about 30 million plays per year.
Beyoncé and Lin-Manuel Miranda both have content available for streaming on Disney+
Not that Beyoncé cares about streaming numbers, though. (Like she says during “Nice,” if she cared about streaming numbers she would’ve put Lemonade up on Spotify.) The artist even recently released a deluxe version of her album The Lion King: The Gift, with music that appeared in the Disney+ exclusive visual album, Black is King.
Hamilton is also available for streaming on Disney’s subscription service. The platform recently released a live recording of the Broadway musical with the original cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda himself.
There’s also the animated Disney movie featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Moana, and the photo-real adaptation of The Lion King featuring Beyoncé as adult Nala. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website.
