Who will be taking to the high seas in Deadliest Catch’s 20th season? The cast includes a mix of long-time vets and newer captains

  • Captain Jake Anderson, who loses the F/V Saga, which forces him to return to his mentor Captain Sig Hansen on the F/V Northwestern.

  • Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski of the F/V Summer Bay
  • Captain Johnathan Hillstrand of the F/V Time Bandit
  • Captains Steve Harley Davidson and Jack Bunnell of the F/V Pacific Mariner

Fishing the Bering Sea is never easy, as Deadliest Catch viewers know. But this season, the captains will face special challenges. Alaska’s Red King Crab fishery has finally reopened, igniting the first derby-style race in years. The intense, highly competitive timeframe forces the captains into serious rivalries that will push everyone to their limit. Extreme weather conditions only amplify the tensions.

“El Niño was really rough this last fall,” Hansen said in an interview with People. “We had a man overboard, and for me, that never happened. But it happened this time.”

“Derby [race] is not easy,” he added. “Derby is very dangerous. You don’t stop, and so every minute counts.”
