‘Sister Wives’: Did Robyn Brown Become Kody Brown’s Wife Way Before Their Spiritual Wedding?
Sister Wives star Robyn Brown reportedly came into the Brown family wanting a huge family first, then the man. However, she received the complete opposite. Robyn won the man and not the family. Could that be because Robyn became Kody’s wife before their spiritual wedding?
Since Kody was the priest of his home, could he have married Robyn before their spiritual union?
There has always been a great debate among Sister Wives viewers about Kody Brown’s visits to Robyn Brown before their wedding. He would travel five hours each way to her home to “court” her.
Therefore, he would leave Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown in Lehi, Utah, to spend weekends with Robyn and her three children. This upended his regular schedule with each wife, including time with Christine, who was heavily pregnant with their daughter, Truely.
Since Robyn lived in a small apartment, it was assumed that Kody would spend alone time with Robyn after her kids went to bed. That type of intimate relationship went against the Brown family’s religious rules.
However, since Kody was the priest of his household, as the AUB dictates, could he have married Robyn ahead of their spiritual family union? While the Brown family hasn’t confirmed this, it gives food for thought about why he could spend weekends at her home before marriage.
The religious group reportedly believes that women are the property of their husbands. A man with three wives or more holds high priesthood status and is in charge of the women’s salvation.
Therefore, as a man with four wives, Kody achieved that religious distinction. This role also gave him a sense of power, which he may have used to his advantage by “marrying” Robyn beforehand.
Christine, Meri, and Janelle discussed Robyn being added to the rotation ahead of marriage
In a confessional shared during season 1 of TLC’s Sister Wives, Robyn Brown defended her position within the Brown family as Kody’s fiancée. She said she needed equal time with him for her children to get to know him.
“There’s been a bit of tension about Kody’s time and if I should get equal amounts,” Robyn began. “Or if I shouldn’t because I’m not married to him yet.
Janelle Brown responded, “I don’t see any difference between a wife and a fiancée. You’re committed when you are in our culture and get to the fiancée point.”
Christine Brown refuted, “I don’t think a fiancée has the same privileges as a wife. I don’t think one out of every four nights he [Kody] spends time with Robyn.”
She added, “That’s not fair to me. When they’re married, she gets equal time.”
Robyn clapped back, “I disagree with that. Because of the fact that the courtship had to go on for so long.”
“It’s hard for me to have Christine say that. But as far as time that was needed, that was absolutely needed for the kids for me to build this relationship with him.”
Meri concluded, “I understand but at the same time, I agree with Christine too. There are just certain things. Once the wedding happens, go do what you want; spend every fourth night with her.”
Robyn maintained that she moved her “whole life” to be near their family. Meri fought back, saying, “That you moved, that’s a big thing. But everybody’s life is being put in an upheaval with this.”
‘Sister Wives’ viewers weighed in on Robyn and Kody’s premarital relationship
In a Reddit post discussing Robyn and Kody’s courtship, fans shared their opinions regarding splitting time between the women. The majority are not Team Robyn.
“I love how Robyn’s excuse seems to be I moved my family to be here, so I get to have s** with your husband before marriage. Wow. Robyn was more rude to them back in the day than I remember. What an awful thing to say to them,” one viewer shared.
A second fan said, “Reiterates how revolting it would be to see your long-time husband bring in a new, young woman into your family and take time away from you and from your children. So hard.”
“Yes! She did not care about the impact on the other wives or kids and expects more. She continues to demand more time and resources as the show progresses. Christine called it from the beginning-sometimes a woman only wants to marry the man, and it hurts the family,” a third fan surmised.
Finally, a fourth fan wrote, “It takes a lot of gall to “sit there” and tell three women that you deserve an equal amount of time with THEIR husband when you aren’t married to him yet. That means they all go from seeing him twice a week to once a week most of the time—them and their kids. It is just an insane concept to think you are equal to women who have been there for 20 years when you aren’t even married to him yet.”
Sister Wives is currently on hiatus. The series airs on TLC.
