Karen Pittman ‘Heartbroken’ Over Departure From ‘And Just Like That…’
And Just Like That… Season 3 is officially in production. While Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis have all been seen filming around New York City, Karen Pittman won’t be in the series again. Pittman took on the role of Nya Wallace, Miranda Hobbes’ law professor, in seasons 1 and 2, but she will not reprise the role in the upcoming season. Pittman isn’t happy about having to walk away from the show, but there is a good reason why it had to happen.
Why did Karen Pittman walk away from ‘And Just Like That…’?
Karen Pittman had to let the character of Nya Wallace go. Unlike the departure of Sara Ramirez’s Che Diaz, fans are not happy to see Nya leave so soon. Pittman recently sat down with Variety and explained why she had to step away.
Logistically, Pittman can’t film And Just Like That… with her other commitments. The beloved actor is already working on two series, and simultaneously filming a third would not have worked. Pittman is set to star in Forever for Netflix. She is also committed to her role in The Morning Show, which will enter its fourth season.
Production for Forever began in May 2024, around the same time And Just Like That… Season 3 began filming in New York City. The Morning Show Season 4 is set to start filming in July.
While Pittman was willing to juggle all three shows, it is clear just how difficult that would be, especially as the shows are being shot in different locations. Ultimately, Pittman decided it was impossible to carry all three shows.
Karen Pittman calls her departure ‘heartbreaking’
While Pittman is excited to explore a new character in Forever, she calls her departure from And Just Like That… “heartbreaking.” In her chat with Variety, Pittman said she enjoyed stepping into the role of Nya Wallace and bringing diversity to the iconic series.
She went on to reveal she was upset when it became clear she couldn’t make it work. Pittman hopes fans will continue to think about the character even though she won’t appear in the upcoming seasons.
Pittman is likely to get her wish. While fans initially were unsure how Nya would fit in with Miranda’s friends, she quickly became a core group member. By the time season 2 was released, most viewers were all in on the law professor. The character brought a lot to the series and introduced tough topics gracefully and insightfully.
While Pittman won’t appear in season 3 of And Just Like That…, fans can catch her in her other roles. There will be a bit of a wait. Forever and the next season of The Morning Show are not expected to be released until 2025. And Just Like That… Season 3 is also scheduled to be released in 2025.
