Parton’s debut album, titled Hello, I’m Dolly, was released in 1967. The following year, she released a duet album with Porter Wagoner titled Just Between You and Me. That same year, she came out with the album Just Because I’m a Woman.

Parton made her television acting debut in a 1967 episode of the series Captain Kangaroo in an episode titled “Dolly Parton Visits the Captain’s Palace.” In 1980, she made her film debut in the movie 9 to 5, in which she played the character Doralee Rhodes.

Two years later, Parton starred in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She played the character Mona Stangley. Parton’s other movies include Rhinestone (1984), Steel Magnolias (1989), The Beverly Hillbillies (2003), Joyful Noise (2012), and Christmas on the Square (2020),
